yoga mats and props
You don’t need much to practice. But a few tools make things easier.
Yoga Mat | You don’t need one, but it helps with grip and cushioning. It also creates a small physical boundary for practice. I use a Manduka mat, but any basic $20–$40 mat will work. I find I need at least 3mm thickness for my needs.
Yoga Blocks | Blocks aren’t just for beginners. They make poses more accessible and reduce strain by bringing the floor closer. Foam blocks are lighter and cheaper. Cork blocks are heavier and feel more stable. I prefer cork, but honestly, either works.
Here are some nice to have/optionals:
Yoga Strap | Helpful for hamstrings, shoulders, and seated folds. A belt or long scarf works just as well.
Bolster or Cushion | Useful for rest poses or added support. A firm pillow or stacked blankets are fine.
Blanket | For knees, hips, or warmth in savasana. Any regular throw blanket works.
